Salman's court ordeal lasts for three hours

Salman Khan has always had it easy. The actor has already got multiple exemptions from appearing in court in the 2002 hit-and run case as he has been acting in films and travelling abroad for shoots. However, the superstar got a taste of what could be in store for him as he waited in the courtroom for around three hours.

Clad in a blue shirt and jeans, Khan arrived at the court along with his two sisters- Arpita and Alvira- and bodyguard Shera. Khan was sitting among witnesses and then stood in the enclosure for the accused after the judge told him to stand.

"Where is the accused? Has he come?" asked Judge UB Hejib. Pointing his fingers at the enclosure, the judge asked the superstar to sit there. He had to wait in the court with sister Arpita for the next three hours. Khan was occasionally seen dozing off.

The judge had on June 24 upheld a Bandra magistrate court order which made out the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the 47-year-old actor, dismissed his appeal against the verdict and asked him to appear before the court on Friday. Khan had been tried by a magistrate court for a lesser offence of causing death by negligence, which provides for a maximum sentence of two years. He will now stand trial under a law pertaining to culpable homicide that could attract a 10-year jail term.

The court on July 24 will decide whether a fresh trial should be held in the case. Khan will have to remain present in the court on July 24 also. Meanwhile, the actor's counsel Shrikant Shivde complained to the court about the 'media trial' the actor was facing and wanted the court to 'restrain' the media as it could cause prejudice against him in the case.
