After watching 'D-Day', Big B speechless!

• Mumbai, July 19 (IANS) Amitabh Bachchan, one of the finest performers in Hindi movies, says that he had such a wonderful experience watching Nikhil Advani's spy thriller "D-day" that he is unable to comment on it.
  
  Big B watched the film at a special screening Thursday.
  
  "I had a wonderful experience watching the film and it will take me a lot of time to gather and understand my emotions and feelings for the film. Right now, I have no words to express my feelings for the film," said the 70-year-old actor here at the screening.
  
  "Everybody has done a brilliant job. Writers, director, music and all the actors have been wonderful," he added.
  
  Released Friday, "D-Day" features Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan, Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles.

Sensuality a key element in 'D-Day'!!

She asserts that sensuality is a key element of her character, and says it hasn't been used just for titillation.

Directed by NIkhil Advani, "D-Day" is an espionage thriller slated to release July 19.

"I'm playing a prostitute in the film and sensuality is a key element. We've not done it for titillation or unnecessary scandalising. The character is like that," the 27-year-old actress said here in an interview.


"If you do it in a wrong way, then the audience and actors both don't like it as the conviction is lost. It's very much integral to the character (in the film). As an actor, I feel we get to express all the emotions, and sensuality is a part of human emotion so its very important," she added.

The film also features Irrfan, Rishi Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in key roles.

As Indian cinema celebrated its century this year, director Nikhil Advani says this is the most exciting time for filmmakers as they are experimenting and getting creative freedom thanks to a flexible mind set by audiences.

Earlier, filmmakers were apprehensive about trying out new themes because audiences were inflexible, but today's movie buffs are open to new subjects spelling a boom time for creative minds.

"I would not change from where I am for Rs 100 crore (movies). It's the most exciting time for the industry," said the 42-year-old, who started as an assistant director in Sudhir Mishra's Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin (1996).

"I have been in the industry for 20 years and in the 20 years, everyday I used to think there will be a day when people will start understanding what we want to do, and the cinema will change. But we forgot that audiences have always accepted great and different films. The last two and a half years have only proved that," he added.

"The kind of films that have been made only proves that every time you give something different to the audiences, they will accept it with open arms," he further said.

The box-office successes of women-centric thriller Kahaani, dark comedy Peepli Live and sperm-donation-based comedy Vicky Donor have proved that viewers are accepting change.

"I am very happy that the studios are today going to the directors who they wouldn't even look at in normal circumstances. It's the best time to make films," he said.

"I want to thank the audiences and say that the more you accept it, the more we will give you different stuff, the more we will keep thinking differently and boldly," Advani added.

Advani's first full-fledged film as a director was Shah Rukh Khan-Priety Zinta-Saif Ali Khan-starrer hitKal Ho Naa Ho (2003). After that he went behind the camera for Salaam-e-Ishq, Chandni Chowk To China and Patiala House, but they couldn't replicate the success of Kal Ho Naa Ho.

He, however, hit the bull's eye with his animation film Delhi Safari, which won a National Award.

The filmmaker also feels today's youth "is asking for a difference, whether it's difference in politics, leadership, music, fashion or cinema".

He admits that the demography of people looking for different films is lower than the masses sticking to certain subjects. "That's why you will always have a Rowdy Rathore or Bodyguard or Dabangg still working (at the box office).

"But the niche audience has grown over the past few years and that's very gratifying and helps filmmakers like us to make something different."

Over the years, the definition of romance has also changed.

"In 2003, when I made Kal Ho Naa Ho, the generation then believed that at the end of the day Shah Rukh will give up the love of his life for Saif... but today's generation is not like that, they will simply not accept it."

His next is D Day, a film on cross-border terrorism, in which a bunch of RAW agents is assigned to bring a terrorist back to India from Pakistan. The film, featuring Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan, Arjun Rampal, Shurti Haasan and Huma Qureshi, is coming out July 19.

"I am making another romantic comedy next year. But it's the kind of romantic film that I think this generation would identify. So it's not going to be in the same space of Kal Ho Naa Ho, but it will be a romantic film," he added.

Nikhil Advani axes Shruti Haasan's dialogue to get U/A certificate

Director Nikhil Advani's D- Day was passed by the Censor Board Of Film Certification with a few dialogue cuts and a 'UA' (permitted for children's viewing with parental guidance) certificate.

Surprisingly, no cuts were ordered in verbal content regarding Pakistan.

The film starring Rishi Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, is based on on cross-border terrorism about a group of RAW agents assigned to bring a Dawood-like terrorist back to India from Pakistan.

Nikhil advani says: "I expected some objection to what could be considered inflammatory dialogues about Pakistan. But the Censor Board has not touched a single word pertaining to Pakistan."

What has gone are a few dialogues by Shruti Haasan who plays a Pakistani prostitute.

Nikhil Advani says, "These are lines where she does hardcore business bargaining with her clients. I was advised to get rid of these dialogues to obtain a 'UA' certificate. I happily took them off. My apprehensions were not about what Shruti's character has to say but about the far more important dialogues on cross-border terrorism. I am happy to say the Censor Board didn't touch any of those."

D Day does not glorify underworld, says Arjun Rampal

Mumbai: Actor Arjun Rampal insists that his upcoming movie 'D Day', which is reportedly modelled on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, does not glamorise or glorify any underworld person.

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor plays a negative role in the film, while Rampal essays the character of an ex-officer of an Indian Armed Forces unit. Actor Irrfan Khan plays an undercover RAW official and Huma Qureshi an explosive expert.

"We did not glamorise or glorify any underworld person. The film is about Irrfan, Huma and me who go to Karachi to bring the most wanted man in India. It is about their story," Arjun said.

Sharing similar sentiments, director Nikhil Advani said, "The film is not about underworld, it is not about bhaigiri. It is a spy thriller... There are RAW agents. It is about four patriots who go to bring back India's most wanted man."

Arjun is happy with the response the film's promos has received.

"We got lot of positivity after releasing the first look. As it appears as a different story, there is interest among the audience about the film," he said.

Though, several films have been made involving RAW agents, Irrfan insists 'D Day' is different and a step ahead of others.

"The nuances of that profession is shown in detail in the film. People will get to know as to how the intelligence services operate... Like how they pass information, an advertisement is placed in a newspaper, how things are

decoded," Irrfan said.

"My character has his own life, has family. They never reveal anything even to the closest of people," he said.

The film opens in theatres on July 19.
