Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif spotted watching Lootera together (view pics)

Mumbai, July 21: ‘Hum lakh chupaiye pyar magar, duniya ko pata chal jayega’, the lines from 1992 ‘Jaan Tere Naam’ fits the ‘just friends’ tale of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif who unwillingly are captured by shutterbugs somewhere or the other place.

Recently the duo was watching Sonakshi Sinha-Ranveer Singh starrer ‘Lootera’ at a theatre in Mumbai. And once again they try to give a miss to media outside the theatre. But they didn’t succeed in it.

The Woman Behind Ranveer's Success

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 16 July 2013 | 09:50

Behind every successful man there is a woman, they say and it stands quite true for actor Ranveer Singh as well.

The 28-year-old who is three-film-old in the industry and has four big films in his kitty, names none other than his manager for his success.

"She is responsible for my success. She is my boss. I wake up in the morning as per her direction and do whatever she says. Her name is Susaine Rodriguez. She is the woman behind everything," said the actor at the success party of his recent release Lootera.

Post Lootera, the Vikramaditya Motwane directed period drama, the actor will be seen in forthcoming films like Gunday and Ram Leela.

Happy Birthday Ranveer Singh!

You may recognize this song from the movie, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. And today happens to be the day that this notorious Ricky Bahl first entered the world. Yes! We are talking about the one, and the only, Ranveer Singh! Born to Jagjit Singh Bhavnani and Anju Bhavnani in Mumbai, on July 6th, 1985, Ranveer turns 28 today. Singh, like the many celebrities in Bollywood has family connections with the industry. He has an elder sister, Ritika Bhavnani, and is a cousin of the Bollywood diva Sonam Kapoor and her sister, Rhea Kapoor.
During his childhood, he had aspired to be an actor. But gave up on this dream while studying at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai. After studying in Mumbai, Ranveer moved to the US and completed a BA degree from Indiana University. On coming back to Mumbai, Ranveer worked for a few years in advertising as a copywriter and then as an assistant director, before going back to pursuing acting seriously. He would send his portfolio to directors, but never set out to actually begin his acting career. After 3 and a half years of looking for a role, he finally got called in for YRF's Band Baaja Baaraat, and as they say, the rest is history.
Ranveer became an overnight success and both viewers and critics praised him for his flawless acting skills. After Band Baaja Baaraat, Ranveer acted in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, which was again declared a success and Ranveer was very much appreciated for his role of the con Ricky Bahl. His most recent movie is Lootera opposite Sonakshi Sinha, which released yesterday on July 5th, just one day before his birthday. He has also signed on for Ram LeelaGunday, and Kill Dil.

Lootera starts Off Well At Box Office

Thanks to the widely spread positive word of mouth around the film, Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha's 'Lootera' has received a good response at the box-office.

Vikramaditya Motwane-directed Lootera, produced by Balaji and Phantom, opened to a strong domestic collection of Rs. 5.15cr on Friday. Even before its release, a positive word of mouth on the film was floating across on social media and within the industry which helped the film take a good initial.

Positive reviews continued which resulted in a steady rise in the business in the range of 25-30% over the weekend. Early estimates indicate that the opening weekend collection would be in the range of Rs 19 cr; exemplary for a film with a defined audience and given a controlled urban multiplex release.

Business has been particularly strong in the territories of Mumbai, Mysore, West Bengal and Punjab. The gross collections in the opening weekend in the international markets are already in excess of $700,000.

Made at a total cost of 32cr (including P&A), while major recoveries have happened through non-theatre sales, theatre revenues have kept the regional sub-distributors happy and hugely augmented the film's profitability.

The other release Policegiri, Sanjay Dutt's first big release after his recent jail sentence, is a larger-than-life South remake and clearly targeted at the multiplexes but even there the business isn't anything to rave about.

The coming week has several small films lined up for release but the most prominent release happens to be Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag starring Farhan Akhtar in the role of Milkha Singh. The recent trailers of this biopic received an encouraging response and the film hold's immense promise. The only prominent small release of the week happens to be BA Pass starring Shilpa Shukla of Chak De India fame.

Lootera earns Rs.19 crore over weekend, Sanjay Dutt's Policegiri falls flat

Excellent reviews from critics and word of mouth helped Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera earn Rs.19 crore over the first weekend.

Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha-starrer opened to an average box office collection of Rs.5.15 crore on Friday but Saturday and Sunday saw 25-30 percent jump in the collection mainly due to word of mouth.

Lootera was made at a total cost of Rs.32 crores. Balaji gave the film a contained and focused release essentially in the urban centers knowing that the film would primarily find audience in premium multiplexes of the country.

Co-produced by Phantom Films and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures, Lootera is the story of unrequited love, set in the era of 1950s.

Sanjay Dutt starrer Policegiri fell flat and has earned Rs.8.25 crore over the weekend. With limited release and lack of promotions, the film couldn't perform as expected.

The film directed by K.S. Ravikumar also stars Prakash Raj, Om Puri and Prachi Desai in the lead.

Ranveer Singh accidents spat on Sonakshi Sinha’s face

Sonakshi Sinha who’s been working with almost every top actor in the Bollywood industry ever since she made her blockbuster debut with Dabangg opposite Salman Khan, has apparently walked out of the sets being very upset when her co-actor Ranveer Singh spat on her face while shooting for a scene.
“She got so angry with me that she stormed out of the sets of the film. It has never happened to me before,”DNA quoted Ranveer as saying.
Recalling the incident, Ranveer said “There is a scene where I hold Sonakshi tightly and yell `You called the police?` I was in the skin of the character at that time and so the intensity was such that spit came out each time I said the dialogue.”
Although there were several warnings during rehearsals, Sonakshi Sinha just stormed out of the sets when this incident occured. Whereas Ranveer Singh also admitted that he had a very tough time trying to make everything okay and pacifying his co-star afterwards for the shooting to resume.
Lootera is partially based on O ‘Henry’s short story, ‘The Last Leaf’. It is scheduled to release on July 5.

Lootera Review

Rating

Did you ever anticipate Vikramaditya Motwane to put together a period film with mainstream actors, after attempting the brilliant slice-of-life drama UDAAN? Nope, not me at least... But maverick film-makers, by and large, tend to drop a bombshell by opting for a contrasting theme in their ensuing movie. The question is, will Motwane ship yet another dazzling nugget in his subsequent outing? Let's find out...

LOOTERA is inspired by American author O. Henry's short story 'The Last Leaf'. Let's set the record straight by stating that Motwane hasn't adapted the story in its entirety. He has made modifications, of course... the most vital one being injecting the protagonist's character [Ranveer Singh] in the plot, which did not exist in the story. For those not acquainted with the story, it's about this dying girl who watches the leaves fall from a plant outside the windowpane and believes that the day the last leaf falls, she too would pass away.

LOOTERA is a captivating tale that reverberates with emotions and passion and encapsulates the highs and lows of a stormy relationship magnificently. Penned with utmost sensitivity and crafted delicately and thoughtfully, the film is akin to a beautiful painting on celluloid!
1953. West Bengal. Varun [Ranveer Singh] arrives in Manikpur, faking himself as an archaeologist. The intention is to steal an ancient idol from the local zamindar. He impresses the zamindar and his family, especially his daughter Pakhi [Sonakshi Sinha], who finds herself drawn towards him.

Soon, Varun and Pakhi are involved in a passionate relationship, but Varun does a volte face and disappears with the idol a day before their engagement. When truth dawns upon Pakhi's father, he suffers a stroke and passes away. Pakhi decides to move on, determined to forget Varun. She arrives in Dalhousie, but as destiny would have it, Varun walks into her life again...

The premise of LOOTERA may bring back memories of several films. But it's the mood, the ambience, the treatment that lures you into the world of Varun and Pakhi. The old world charm of Bengal and Dalhousie only enhances the impact, while the varied twists in the tale catch you absolutely unaware, especially when one is guessing about what course the storyline would take after a major twist during the interval point.

LOOTERA bears the look of a classic. The visuals, the shade palette, the objet d'art, the milieu, the apparel... even the way the characters communicate at an unhurried, easygoing pace and share emotions takes you back to the bygone era.

UDAAN gestured the initiation of an accomplished storyteller's journey and LOOTERA cements it. In years to come, Motwane may emerge as the frontrunner thanks to the plot/s he chooses to narrate and most significantly, the brilliance with which he narrates it. The sparkling chemistry between the actors, the atmospherics, the storytelling... LOOTERA is a demanding film to make, but the director warrants colossal admiration for jubilantly narrating a tale that settles in your heart... and moistens your eyes at varied junctures.

Of course, the narrative unravels at an unhurried pace, but let's not forget that this one has an old-world charm that cannot be rushed. The moments and pauses are to be enjoyed in a film like this!

Every frame of LOOTERA exudes sensuality, partly because the chemistry between the on-screen lovers -- Ranveer and Sonakshi -- is scorching. The fervor and passion the two actors emanate on screen, while living those characters, leaves you awe-struck. LOOTERA is further embellished with dialogue that corresponds so delightfully with the premise. The lines are dreamy, romantic and acidic, as per the situation. The contribution by the DoP is equally pertinent, with the frames appearing to be a painting in motion.

The evaluation would be imperfect without highlighting Amit Trivedi's contribution to the motion picture. The soundtrack is seeped in melody and mirrors the era that the director illustrates on celluloid. True to the concept, Trivedi takes you back to the long-gone period with his melodies.

While Ranveer and Sonakshi anchor the movie with supreme performances, even the ones in supporting parts leave an ineradicable impact. Ranveer has been entrusted with a complicated character so early in his career. Besides playing an intense lover, he plays a reticent and brooding character, something he hasn't explored in his earlier films. And Ranveer makes the most of it by making the character come alive. The character has disconcerting shades and it is imperative that he uses his eyes to leave a mark, which he does so at a variety of stages. He's simply fantastic!

Like Ranveer, Sonakshi too gets the most demanding role of her career thus far and what makes it even more complicated for the youngster is the fact that she has to shoulder the responsibility of hauling the film on her shoulders when Ranveer makes a brief exit, only to re-emerge after a point. Sonakshi is a revelation in LOOTERA; her performance is, beyond doubt, top notch. She glides into her part with such effortlessness that it catches you by complete surprise. She's magnificent!

Divya Dutta is super in a cameo. Vikrant Massey is first-rate. Shirin Guha is appropriate. Arif Zakaria is tremendous. Adil Hussain delivers a punch-packed performance. Barun Chanda, as Sonakshi's father, is brilliant.

On the whole, LOOTERA is an intrinsically earnest and profoundly heartwarming story that stays in your heart. An absolute must for those who love romantic films or are romantic at heart. This one's a cinematic gem!
