Why Akshay Kumar Does Not Romance Any Heroine In Boss

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 24 September 2013 | 21:33

“Flops are never the end. In fact they are like a new beginning,” says Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar.

Having put the underwhelming response to Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara behind him, Akshay is all geared up for his forthcoming action flick Boss. Indiatimes.com met up with Akshay Kumar for a quick media Q&A at a five-star hotel in Mumbai, to find out what fans can expect from Akshay's new film.

The promos suggest that there is a lot more hand-to-hand combat in the action, unlike the aerial-kicks and gravity-defying stunts that we are used to seeing in other remakes.

Elaborating on the action (Akshay reveals that the film has 12 major action sequences), Kumar says, "You are right, there is a lot more hand-to-hand fighting in this film. These days I feel cable fights are going out of fashion. We have seen enough of this 'one punch and people flying 150 feet, taking six rotations in the air' type of stunts".

"In Boss I wanted raw and manly action. Like the climax of this film has a six-minute-long fight that is just man-to man, between the hero and the villain. No sideys or henchmen."

Akshay says that Ronit Roy who plays the villain, has worked very hard on his body for the film, and does not look like the Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi face that people have been used to seeing.

The film also stars Shaitan fame Shiv Pandit, who Akshay says reminds him a lot of his younger days. As far as his seniors go, Akshay says Mithun Chakraborthy always plays his father on screen with a lot of heart; while Danny has been someone Akshay considers an inspiration, as he looks as youthful as ever and works on his own terms with a lot of discipline.

However the one surprising element in Boss is that Akshay Kumar has no leading lady in the film.

When asked why he chose to cast himself minus any heroine, Akshay argues, "In the original Malaylam film Pokkiri Raja, Mammooty's character does not have a heroine. So there was no need to purposely tamper with the script".

Post Boss, Akshay Kumar will be seen in Ghajini fame AR Murugadoss' Holiday. A Hindi remake of Vijay’s Thuppakki, the movie also stars Sonakshi Sinha.

Akshay clarifies that the film was never tilted Pistol. "Just because the literal translation of the Tamil word Thuppakki is pistol, people assumed that it is the title of the Hindi version".

Akshay Kumar Decides To Breathe Fury At OUATIMD Critics

Written By Unknown on Thursday, 22 August 2013 | 06:10

Our homegrown Khiladi #1 is clearly sharing Once Upon a time in Mumbai Dobarara producer Ekta Kapoor's bad mood these days. After the movie lost out to Chennai Express at the box office, it seems the critics took care of whatever else was left, calling it 'not even a one-time watch'.

A fuming Akshay Kumar lashed out at the critics saying that the only opinion that matters is that of the audience watching the movie, and that the critics need to be writing about that rather than their own. He further added that 'the audience is never wrong'.

The rant continued with Akshay adding that most critics don't know the basics of filmmaking which makes them unfit to understand what today's smart audience appreciates. He added that he only respects those critics who write keeping the viewers in mind.

But, why this late in the day Akshay? Could it have anything to do with the fact that Ekta Kapoor is none too happy with Akshay either, for allegedly not being present during the movies promotional activities? Or for that matter not taking a cue from King Khan himself, who continued to promote the movie days after it was released.

One thing's for sure, Akshay's reaction came right around the time it was reported that Chennai Express is close to touching the Rs.200-crore mark in profits while presently resting at a whopping Rs.197 crore. Clearly a case of too many bitter lemons for Lemony Snickets.

Akshay's Independence Day Bonanza For His Fans

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 30 July 2013 | 21:30

Recently it was reported that both the forthcoming biggies, Chennai Express and Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara, would come to audiences at a higher price, what with exhibitors deciding to hike ticket rates by more than 20% to cash in on the festive and holiday season.

However, makers of at least one film, Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara, have expressed concern about penalizing the audience.

"This is an unprecedented move, and a noble one at that," informs our source, while adding, "It is easy to make a noise about a higher box office gross by hiking ticket prices, which is what the strategy appears to be. Only the consumer suffers. However, the OUATIMDmakers are not keen to let down their loyal fans."

"In any case, movie watching has turned into an expensive affair, what with some premium multiplexes hiking the rates of refreshments by over 100% in the year gone by. Add to that exorbitant car parking charges, which means that for even a single entry over a weekend, watching a film costs anywhere between Rs. 600-800," adds another source. He adds, "Gone are the days when a family of four could shell out a princely sum of Rs. 1000 and watch a film. Today in an upmarket multiplex, it costs upwards of Rs. 2500."

Naturally, the team of OUATIMD feels that there should be no increased burden on the audience.

Says an industry source, "There are ways to reach a box office number and it should not be done by increasing ticket prices. If a film is accepted, it will achieve its target over a sustained run. It's not just about garnering everything in the opening weekend."

On being contacted, Akshay Kumar said, "On the occasion of our film arriving on Independence Day, I can't make my audience suffer. It is a holiday for them to come and enjoy the film we've made and then come back again. Hiking ticket rates would only discourage them. That's not how I want to reach out to my fan base. Ekta and I are on the same page; ticket rates for OUATIMD won't be increased."

Akshay, Sonakshi Reunite For Special Song In 'Boss'

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 23 July 2013 | 06:24

Here’s the exclusive picture of the much talked-about Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha club number, Party All Night, from Boss. Those who have heard the song swear that it will be one of the year’s hottest club numbers. The song was shot for two days over the weekend. Half of the song is still to be shot.

It presently also features Yo Yo Honey Singh who flew down from Delhi to be a part of it. Along with him, Shiv Pandit and Aditi Rao Hydari also set the screen ablaze in this peppy chartbuster.

However, the highlights of the song are the Akshay-Sonakshi dance moves. Sonakshi has never done a club song before, or dressed in an LBD. While the actress will be seen in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobaara with Akshay, she has just a cameo in this film.

The sizzling chemistry between the two in the song has to be seen to be believed.

Both Akshay and Sonakshi were so excited about the song that they both shot for 12 hours at a stretch for it, something that they have never done before.

The song has been directed by Sumit Dutt of Dhinkachika and Character Dheela fame. Even he was blown by the energy of this couple. “Akshay and Sonakshi will shock the audience. This will be hard to beat,” he says.

News is that the second portion of the song will be shot in Thailand next month. Along with Sonakshi, Prabhudheva and a couple of other big names are expected to be a part of it. We just hope they are able to match up to Sonakshi’s sizzling act.

Ekta Kapoor's superstition goes over board!

Ekta Kapoor

Ekta Kapoor's belief in numerology and astrology is a known fact to the world today, but according to recent reports her 'superstious side' has crossed the line.

In her next production venture, 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara' which is all set to hit the screens August 15, will roll Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi's names in the opening credit list sans their presence in the film.

A leading tabloid quoted a source saying, "Ekta is a superstitious person. She feels both Ajay and Emraan are extremely lucky for her because of which the previous film had raked in impressive moolah." Their names will feature at the top of the list, even before any of the actors who star in the present sequel.

The actors were a part of the film's prequel.

The report also claims that the makers have also planned to play a special 60-second video of footage from the previous installment featuring Ajay in the sequel.

The tabloid quoted Tanuj Garg, CEO of the production house as saying, "Yes, we've decided to give a special thank you mention to Ajay and Emraan as they are an integral part of the franchise."

Bollywood Films Bring Qawwalis Back

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, 16 July 2013 | 23:40

The trademark topi, sadri (sleeveless jacket) and the rumaal (handkerchief) come alive once again in Bollywood. With more and more music composers weaving the magic of qawaalis with a new twist in the film's music, the qawwali numbers that are creating a buzz among music lovers.

Tayyab Ali Pyaar ka Dushman
Film: Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara
Qawwali tadka: Actor Imran Khan adds a new-age twist to the Tayyab Ali Pyaar ka Dushman track, which was once made popular by Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh starrer Amar Akbar Anthony in 1977.

Duma Dum Mast Kalandar
Film: D-Day
Qawwali tadka: Nothing can go wrong with a Duma Dum Mast Kalandar version. Mika Singh's voice for this version, adds the sufi qawwali touch to this already beautiful track. Music composers Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani add their style to the track and make it something you would want to play on a loop.

Karle Jugaad Karle
Film: Fukrey
Qawwali tadka: Young, funky soundtrack with a qawwali twist, the song's quirky lyrics and uptempo music has caught on. Music director Ram Sampath's idea was to make a young and funky soundtrack that represents the youth of India who don't have money or connections. Well, the song kept the essence of qawwali not just in the music but also in the four actors get-up which included the glitzy topi, sadri and rumaal.

Allah Meherban
Film: Ghanchakkar
Qawwali tadka: Qawaali meets electro-pop. The track, Allah Meherban is a sufi qawwali composed by Amit Trivedi. Interestingly, this is Emraan's first qawwali number. The peppy andenergetic song also has a promotional video. According to director Rajkumar Gupta, the song adds to the quirkiness of the story and makes Emraan's character identifiable.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
Film: Policegiri
Qawwali tadka: A feel of sufi qawwali along with Sanju Baba's dance moves adds to the song. Unlike the usual set-up of a qawwali track, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom comes across as a dance number with a feel of a sufi qawwali, minus the topi, sadri and rumaal. Sanjay definitely adds the star value to the song, as he grooves with Prakash Raj.

Revealed - The mystery around Sonali Bendre in OUATIMD!!

SONALI BENDRE wallpapers

The promos of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA are on in full swing and one can see that (villain) Akshay Kumar, (hero) Imran Khan and (heroine) Sonakshi Sinha are all over. However the woman conspicuous by her absence is Sonali Bendre, who is said to be playing an integral part in the film.

So where exactly is she?

"Well, she is pretty much in the film and for all the good reasons. She isn't prominent in the promos so far because the scenes that she features in the film are quite key to the plot. Anything that is revealed now may be akin to giving away some highlights of the film," says our source.

On probing further, we were informed that she plays Akshay Kumar's former love interest in the film and her name is Mumtaz.

Comments an insider, "She has a brief, but very charming role in the film. Milan (Luthria) had various options available but both Balaji and Milan were keen on Sonali because she looks the part and is also stunningly young till date. Moreover, in the recent years gone by, she has gained much popularity on television judging various reality shows."

Though no one was willing to go on record around her actual part in the film, we gather that she plays a key role in shaping up Akshay's character in the film, because of which he ends up taking a path that makes him an ultimate villain. No wonder, none of that is being showcased in the promos so far, lest it lets the cat out of the bag.

We would eventually know though once the film releases all over on 15th August.

Ye Tune Kya Kiya Lyrics

Ishq woh bala hai
Ishq woh bala hai
Jisko chhuaa isne woh jala hai
Dil se hota hai shuru
Dil se hota hai shuru
Par kambakht sar pe chadha hai
Kabhi khud se, kabhi khuda se
Kabhi zamaane se lada hai
Itna hua badnaam phir bhi
Har zubaan pe ada hai

Ishq ki.. saazishein
Ishq ki.. baaziyaan
Haara main khel ke
Do dilon ka juaa

Kyun tune meri fursat ki
Kyun dil mein itni harqat ki
Ishaq mein itni barqat ki
Ye tune kya kiya..

Phiru ab maara maara main
Chaand se bichhda taara main
Dil se itna kyun haara main
Ye tune kya kiya..

Saari duniya se jeet ke main aaya hoon idhar
Tere aage hi main haara kiya tune kya asar

Main dil ka raaz kehta hoon
Ke jab jab saansein leta hoon
Tera hi naam leta hoon
Ye tune kya kiya

Meri baahon ko teri saanson ki jo
Aadatein lagi hain waisi
Jee leta hoon ab main thoda aur

Meri dil ki ret pe
Aankhon ki jo pade parchhai teri
Pee leta hoon tab main thoda aur

Jaane kaun hai tu meri
Main naa jaanu ye magar
Jahaan jaaun main karoon main wahaan
Tera hi zikar

Mujhe tu raazi lagti hai
Jeeti hui baazi lagti hai
Tabiyat taazi lagti hai
Ye tune kya kiya

Main dil ka raaz kehta hoon
Ke jab jab saansein leta hoon
Tera hi naam leta hoon
Ye tune kya kiya

Dil karta hai, teri baatein sunu
Saude main adhoore chunu
Muft ka hua ye faayda
Kyun khud ko main barbaad karoon
Fanaa hoke tunhse miloon
Ishq ka ajab hai qaayda
Teri raahon se jo guzri hain meri dagar
Main aage badh gaya hoon thoda hoke be-fikar

Kaho toh, kis se marzi loon
Kaho toh, kis ko arzi doon
Hansta ab thoda farzi hoon
Ye tune kya kiya

Main dil ka raaz kehta hoon
Ke jab-jab saansein leta hoon....

Ishq ki.. saazishein
Ishq ki.. baaziyaan
Haara main khel ke
Do dilon ka juaa
